home kantina art sketch extras

my name is cameron perkins and i come from a faraway land called Florida... and i'm here to share with you the art from the innermost crevices of my mind...

but seriously. i'm cameron, or ammodog as some might know me, or cam as others might know me, and i'm the creator of this site and everything on it. glad you're here!

i always find it hard writing these things because i feel like there isn't too much to say... i'm an illustration major at the savannah college of art and design, i play bass guitar, i make comics, i play video games, etc. etc. etc. my favorite color is orange and my favorite animal is a tiger. i'm a gemini.

if you haven't explored the site already, i post my comics, art, videos, pdfs and stuff here. on the front page is an update log as well as links to my other social medias. below is a Q&A!

my email is ammodogbusiness@gmail.com. feel free to hire me for all your big projects. or you can also ask me questions there, i suppose.

what's with the standing on toilets?

this is a question i get asked a lot, and it might be a little confusing to someone who hasn't followed me on instagram. so i'll set the record straight here with a little story from my childhood.

way back when, when i was in highschool, me and two friends went into a very small bathroom stall, too small for us three to stand around, so i stood on the toilet. and that's pretty much it.

now it's become a sort of ritual. whenever i go into a public restroom, i stand on the toilet. i'd recommend you try it sometime. as long as there isn't anyone else in there. i'm pretty short so it never looks like i'm trying to look at someone in the next stall over, but still i'd proceed with caution.

i think it's been four years since i first stood on a toilet and since then i've done it all over the world. it's a liberating experience.

what inspires your art?

a lot of different things.

some visual artists that i really like are phil hale, q hayashida, ralph steadman, daniel clowes, jamie hewlett, and many many more. those are just the ones i've been thinking about recently.

in a more abstract sense, a lot of music artists inspire me, too. my top 5 (as of writing this) are big black, alice in chains, mr.bungle, beastie boys, and butthole surfers. i like a lot of different music, but these ones in particular are ones that inspire me to draw. in fact, my first tattoo was some big black lyrics.

i could go on and on and on but i'll leave it at that. as an artist, everything i see inspires me in some way or another.

what is kantina?

kantina is a personal project i've been working on for a very, very long time. it started off as doodles in my notebook in highschool, and i kept thinking about it and drawing the characters, and slowly developed a story. at this point the story has completely spun off into weirdo insanity. and i can't wait to share it with you all.

if you're interested, check out the kantina tab at the top of the page.

is going to art school worth it?

honestly, for me, yes. a friend and i have a theory that anyone from our highschool who stays in town for a year after they graduate will never, ever leave. so even though it's been expensive and at some times entirely awful, it's taught me a lot about being an adult, introduced me to a lot of cool people, and got me off my ass and made me create art. i haven't graduated yet, so the jury is still out if it was entirely worth it, but as of right now, my answer is yes.

something i was really scared of before coming to art school was losing my love of art. i saw it happen with a lot of artists i looked up to... as soon as they spent some time in art school, they started to hate what they used to be so passionate about. it's such a shame! but i understand. it's hard being forced to do something that used to be a hobby, or something you did to unwind, etc. but i personally haven't experienced that. take my advice with a grain of salt, but i think if you have the means, it's not a bad idea, but also not completely necessary. you know what i mean?

what video games do you like?

unfortunately i have fallen ill with the first-person-shooter virus... i know... save your pity.

i've played every fallout game and even though i trash them all the time, i actually do like them. other than that, i also like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., postal, red dead redemption, half-life... you know. pretty basic answer.

other than fps games i really like jazzpunk, yume nikki, space funeral, OFF, silent hill, and i've been known to play splatoon and team fortress 2 on occasion. but i've played a lot of games and will continue to play more if i ever find the time.

oh. and i'm really, really good at guitar hero.
